Based in Berlin, Nicolai is experienced in all major aspects of digital entrepreneurship, ranging from product management, technology design to venture capital. In his current position, Nicolai is managing director for the HPI Seed Fund, a pre-seed VC fund focussing on the support of founders and alumni at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute (HPI). Here, he also works as a research, based on which he recently completed a doctoral degree (Dr. rer pol). [...]

At HPI, Nicolai gets to know and support 50+ startup teams through various events, workshops, and lectures every year. Among these, about five are selected for pre-seed financing by the HPI Seed Fund, extending the exist portfolio continously (15+ startups at the moment). All of these digital startup teams are being supported in aspects ranging from problem understanding, customer discovery, value proposition design, business modelling, and technology design until they are investment-ready for their first or next financing round.

Previously at Wooga, Nicolai worked on digital products focussing on social and mobile entertainment. His responsibilities included agile IT-project management and product management for products with more than 1M daily active users (including titles such as Pearl's Peril and Agent Alice).

Before this, Nicolai set out his career as a graduate trainee at comdirect Group, which is part of Commerzbank AG, in which he got to work on strategy development on an executive level, translation of strategy into product management roadmaps, as well as realization of new products in the IT department. Moreover, company controlling and first-hand customer support were also parts of this journey.

Summarized, Nicolai obtains 5+ years of expertise in managing digital products from concept to completion, leveraging broad IT experience to achieve operational impact. He is skilled at building cross-functional teams, demonstrating excellent communication skills, and making critical decisions when faced with challenges. Nicolai is particularly interested in the design and implementation of IT solutions for end user products. He obtains a strong academic background in information systems and digital entrepreneurship combined with practical experiences relevant to all aspects of digital product development.

Previous engagements ranged from one-on-one coaching to lectures with more than 150 students. Nicolai is fluent in German and English. Currently based in Berlin, Nicolai is open to coaching, speaking and other engagements.
